Maciej Bobowicz

Gdansk University Hospital Clinical Partner Team Member

“I graduated from the Medical University of Gdansk, Poland, in 2006. Soon after, I moved to the UK, where I completed a two-year Foundation Programme for junior doctors. Next, I moved back to Poland and completed extensive general surgery and surgical oncology training at the Medical University of Gdansk. After completing specialisation training, I focused on breast cancer diagnostics and treatment. In 2020, I was appointed assistant professor at the 2nd Department of Radiology, Medical University of Gdansk, Poland, to lead my first work package in the EU-funded project ‘EuCanImage – A European Cancer Image Platform Linked to Biological and Health Data for Next-Generation Artificial Intelligence and Precision Medicine in Oncology’.
I am an enthusiast of the responsible use of artificial intelligence in medicine, particularly cancer imaging. My other fields of professional interest are artificial intelligence in oncology, radiomics, bioinformatics, process automation, precision medicine in oncology, and new cancer diagnostics and treatment technologies. I’m a board member of the clinical working group of the AI4Health Imaging Network, leader of WP in RadioVal Project and a task leader in the EUropean Federation for CAncer IMages (EUCAIM) project.

In my free time, I love to travel to remote destinations, walk my kids and dog in the Kashubian forests, cycle a bike in the evenings on empty suburban roads or play board games during the winter colds next to the crackling fireplace after a skiing rodeo in the beautiful Italian Alps.”
