Rosa Di Micco was born in Naples, a sunny and seaside city in the South of Italy where she studied Medicine becoming the first doctor in her family. She has always desired to be a surgeon and cancer research has been her main area of interest. During her surgical training, Rosa was fascinated by breast surgery, so she left Italy spending one year in London to learn more about oncoplastic surgery. Under the supervision of Jennifer Rusby she started her first research project on patient’s satisfaction and patient-reported outcomes focusing on their correlation with 3D photography. Following the idea that the evaluation of cosmetic outcomes and of the patient’s opinion are the best ways to improve surgical results she participated to several audits in UK on breast reconstruction. In order to complete her training as breast surgeon she became the first Italian student to attend the European Master’s Degree in Surgical Oncology, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Breast Surgery travelling in several breast units all over Europe. When she came back to Italy, she was strongly motivated to continue her career as researcher and oncoplastic breast surgeon. Hence, she moved to Milan where she started working with Oreste Gentilini at the Breast Unit of Ospedale San Raffaele, and she finally had the opportunity to follow her dreams. During the last five years in Milan, Rosa could combine clinical and research activity, participating to several research projects on breast cancer. She also got married with Luigi in a wonderful castle and lives now in a nice house with a big garden where she could cuddle her little newborn Lorenzo. Every time she misses her family and the sea she loves to come back to Naples and to spend a few days in good company.
