Provincial Centre of Oncology (Wojewódzkie Centrum Onkologii (WCO) is a specialist unit dedicated to cancer treatment. It is a part of Copernicus, a major medical company in the Pomeranian region that owns two full-profile hospitals in Gdańsk, a cancer centre, and outpatient centres for dentistry and preventive healthcare initiatives. WCO has a chemotherapy department, a large multidisciplinary outpatient clinic for cancer patients of all types, as well as a Clinical Trials Centre and a surgical unit. The Department of General Surgery operates as part of a certified Breast Cancer Unit, treating over 600 primary breast cancer cases annually. The department is a 10-bed facility, performing nearly 1000 surgeries per year. The department covers a broad spectrum of breast cancer surgeries, including immediate and delayed reconstruction procedures, as well as post-treatment symmetrisation surgeries. The department’s staff members actively participate in various international research and educational activities within surgical, oncological, and nutritional scientific societies.
